๐ง Why this matters now
Every organisation has an atmosphere. People can feel it before they can explain it. It is in the tone of meetings, the energy of corridors, the way people arrive, the way they leave, the way they hide tiredness, boredom, stress or emotional overload behind professional smiles.
The Great Big Yawn works with the first visible outward signals of that hidden pressure. Through short, sharp workshops and Ambassador-led cultural practice, we help organisations interrupt the old charge around shame, apathy, boredom and exhaustion โ and replace it with hope, creativity, possibility, relief and connection.
This is cultural change in micro-moments. Seconds matter. Repetition matters. Shared language matters. When people begin to practise a new response together, the whole vibe of an organisation can begin to shift.
Contagious change is already moving
The Great Big Yawn has already directly reached more than 5,000 people through workshop delivery and community activation. Those people do not leave the experience in the room. They talk about it. They share it with staff, families, friends, children, colleagues and community groups.
In simple terms: the workshops start the cultural conversation, but the people carry it forward. That is the contagious effect. That is the movement.
The Cultural Change Model
A two-year journey from ignition to creative expansion
Year 1: Elite Cultural Set-Up
Year 1 is the ignition year. It establishes the internal language, trains the ambassadors, activates the first staff cohorts and gives the organisation a practical structure for cultural change to begin quickly.
Starting from ยฃ10,000 โ up to 150 people in the initial cohort.
6โ8 internal Ambassadors are trained over 2 days before the wider staff cohorts begin. Workshops run in groups of 15โ20 people (15 or 30 minutes per group depending on need). For 150 people in 30-minute groups of 20, that is 8 sessions โ around 4 hours of direct delivery. For many organisations this can be done in one high-energy activation day. For larger or more complex organisations, a two-day roll-out creates more space, better pacing and stronger data capture.

For around 18p per person per day, your organisation can begin a fast, visible cultural shift in how people respond to boredom, apathy, shame, exhaustion and hidden emotional pressure.
How the cohort activation works โ 150 people
| Format | Group size | Sessions for 150 | Direct delivery time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-min workshops | 15 people | 10 sessions | 5 hours |
| 30-min workshops | 20 people | 8 sessions | 4 hours |
| 15-min workshops | 15 people | 10 sessions | 2.5 hours |
| 15-min workshops | 20 people | 8 sessions | 2 hours |
Year 2: Where it gets exciting
Year 1 sets the culture in motion. Year 2 grows it. By the second year, the organisation has Ambassadors, lived experience, staff language, participation data and a clearer sense of where apathy, boredom, shame and exhaustion are still hiding.
This is where we move from set-up to creative expansion: new Ambassador cohorts, refresh days, deeper impact stories, sponsored community projects, family involvement, national campaign moments and global connection.

๐ฌ Language for your organisation to use publicly โ make it your own
Example PR wording
We have made a deliberate decision to change the charge of our culture. We have joined The Great Big Yawn Elite Cultural Change Partnership โ a movement that takes the hidden signals of boredom, apathy, exhaustion and shame seriously, and turns them into something visible, human and contagious. Our trained Ambassadors are leading short, sharp sessions that give our people permission to be human at work. We are building a shared language. We are creating moments of relief that travel โ from our staff to their families, from our organisation into our wider community. This is not a wellbeing tick-box. This is intentional cultural change โ and we are doing it together, contagiously, with a yawn. Join us. Help us shift the atmosphere โ one moment of relief at a time.
Boredom. Apathy. Exhaustion.
They are not personal failings. They are societal signals.
When people cannot release emotional pressure, it does not disappear. It accumulates โ in individuals, in communities, in organisations โ and eventually it finds a way out.
63%
of young people report chronic boredom as a factor in antisocial behaviour
"Boredom is not a trivial emotion. It is strongly linked to aggression, risk-taking, substance misuse and social withdrawal โ particularly in young people and disengaged workers."
Eastwood et al., Perspectives on Psychological Science, 2012
41%
of UK adults feel disconnected from their community โ the highest recorded level
"Apathy and emotional numbness are among the strongest predictors of civic disengagement, community breakdown and political extremism โ more so than anger alone."
Royal College of Psychiatrists / Institute for Community Studies, 2023
12bn
working days lost globally each year to depression and anxiety
"Chronic workplace exhaustion does not stay at work. It erodes parenting, relationships, community participation and civic trust โ with intergenerational consequences."
WHO World Mental Health Report, 2022
76%
of employees report experiencing burnout at least sometimes โ up from 67% in 2020
"The suppression of emotional expression in institutional settings โ schools, hospitals, workplaces โ is directly linked to rising rates of burnout, staff turnover and collective helplessness."
Harvard Business Review / Burnout Institute, 2024

What if the answer has been hiding in plain sight โ in the most human, involuntary, contagious act there is?
The Great Big Yawn does not pathologise boredom, apathy or exhaustion. We work with them. We make them visible. We give them permission to move through people โ safely, playfully, collectively. And when relief moves through a room together, something shifts. Fast.
"This is not therapy. It is not a workshop. It is cultural change with a yawn โ and it is contagious by design."
Are you ready to let your culture move?
This is not about adding one more wellbeing initiative to an already crowded calendar. It is about changing the charge of the room.
Boredom is not nothing. Apathy is not laziness. Exhaustion is not weakness. Shame is not a personality trait. They are signals that something in the human system has stopped flowing.
The Great Big Yawn helps organisations work with those signals quickly, safely and collectively. The workshops are short. The impact can be deep. The change can begin within weeks when the practice is repeated by trained Ambassadors and supported by leadership.

Responsible Practice Note
The Great Big Yawn does not diagnose, treat or cure mental health conditions. This programme is a cultural wellbeing, education and community engagement initiative designed to support everyday regulation, shared language, inclusion, connection and prevention-focused organisational culture. Organisations should continue to follow their own safeguarding, occupational health, clinical, HR and mental health referral policies.
